I asked 10 people to record 10min of audio while
walking on the streets of L.A. and to describe what they see and think at this very moment. I edited these observations into a 20min text that I recited live while walking on the treadmill surrounded by the collection of historic neon signs at the neon museum in L.A.
I was interested to hear and speak those testimonies of pedestrian experiences because the city is almost only accessible by car and most people never walk on the street. The overwhelming presence of neon signs in the city is due to the dominant car culture
because neon signs can be read from a distance, so they are not really made for pedestrians.
